2022 RUGBY 7S WORLD CUP IN SOUTH AFRICA

From 9 to 11 September 2022 will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, the Rugby World Cup

For the first time in this competition, the selection will be by direct elimination. No right to a slip-up. In concrete terms, a team will have to win each match if it wants to reach the final. No group matches, and therefore no possibility of catching up afterwards.

The seeds for the men's and women's tournaments have been established based on points accumulated at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in 2020 and 2022.

The 16-team women's tournament will begin with the 16-team knockout tournament. The third-ranked French team will face South Africa (14th) for a place in the quarterfinals.

For the men, there will be a first round of qualification with teams ranked from 9 to 24. The winners of this qualifying round will advance to the Round of 16 and face the top eight seeded teams, including 7th ranked France. The losers will participate in the Bowl determining the 17th to 24th place rankings.

South Africa's 7-a-side Blitzboks, winners of 36 straight matches, are the overwhelming favorites having won six consecutive World Series rounds between 2021 and 2022.
